Istanbul and Cappadocia Holidays from Uganda

Hagia Sophia, the Bosphorus and the fairy chimneys of Cappadocia: a guide for travellers from Entebbe, with visa and timing tips.

City7 min readFor travellers in Uganda

Turkey combines two very different trips: the old-world city of Istanbul, where Europe meets Asia, and Cappadocia, with its rock valleys, cave hotels and balloon flights.

Both are popular with Ugandan travellers because there are good flights and a lot to see in a week.

Getting there from Entebbe

Turkish Airlines connects Entebbe with Istanbul, which makes this one of the easier long trips from Uganda. From Istanbul a domestic flight takes you to Cappadocia. Turkey's entry process for Ugandan passport holders should be checked before booking, and we guide you through it.

Best time to go

April to June and September to October have mild weather. Summer is hot and crowded, while winter is cold with the chance of snow in Cappadocia, which can be beautiful.

Things to do

  • Sultanahmet. Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Basilica Cistern and Topkapi Palace.
  • Bosphorus cruise. See palaces and bridges between two continents.
  • Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar. Shopping, tea and Turkish delight.
  • Cappadocia valleys. Walk through Goreme, Pasabag and the rock churches.
  • Hot-air balloon flight. A sunrise flight is the highlight, weather permitting.

Tips for Ugandan travellers

  • Book the balloon flight for your first morning, to leave a weather backup day.
  • Wear comfortable shoes for Cappadocia's hills and Istanbul's cobbled streets.
  • Dress modestly when visiting mosques.
