South Africa gives you a city, a coast, wine country and a world-famous safari in one trip. For Ugandans who already know East African safaris, adding Kruger or Cape Town makes a very different holiday.
The key is not trying to see everything. A short Cape Town stay and a few nights in Kruger work well.
Getting there from Entebbe
Entebbe has links to Johannesburg with and without a connection, and from Johannesburg you can fly to Cape Town or drive and fly to the Kruger area. South Africa asks for a yellow fever certificate from travellers arriving from risk countries, and visa rules for Ugandans should be checked in advance. We help with both.
Best time to go
Cape Town is at its best from November to March (warm and dry), though the wind can be strong. Kruger is best for wildlife from May to September, when it is dry and animals gather at water.
Things to do
- Table Mountain. Cable car or hike for views over the city and the ocean.
- Cape Point and Boulders Beach. Scenic coastal drive and the penguin colony.
- Winelands. Stellenbosch and Franschhoek for tastings and long lunches.
- Kruger safari. Game drives for lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino.
- Robben Island and the V&A Waterfront. History and shopping in the city.
Tips for Ugandan travellers
- Allow at least 4 nights in Cape Town and 2 to 3 in Kruger.
- Pack layers, because mornings on safari and evenings in Cape Town can be cool.
- Ask about self-drive versus guided options, since distances are long.
